This project was created for personal and / or commercial purposes.
One of the first programs I used for digital art was Paint.net, which at the time was only slightly more advanced than Microsoft Paint. However, it did have a small variety of filters that I took an interest in layering on top of one another to create a variety of uniquely digital patterns and textures.
This process later matured into my ongoing “Digital Laminates” project. All of these artworks are created in Photoshop without any direct or specific intervention on the canvas — meaning that any filters I use are applied to an entire layer. The relationships between multiple layers that are manipulated through clipping, blending modes, and masks are what result in the complex visuals seen in each piece.
Series 01
While I am partially concerned with aesthetics and composition, I don’t have any specific vision in mind when I start a Digital Laminate. Instead, I try to experiment with sequences of filters and basic operations — and respond to the visuals that result. I am particularly interested in the distinct pixel-level artifacts that arise through this process (see below).
